TELECOM CLUB SUNYIT- UTICA

03/04/05 

Call to Order

Aashish Sharma, President, called to order the meeting at 12:05PM in the ISET conference room.

 

Roll Call:

President’s Report:

Items for upcoming raffle:

  • Looked at deals over the internet. Item such as jump drives, optical mouse, wireless routers etc were discussed. Items to be finalized soon.

 

Vice-President’s Report:

50-50 Fund raiser

  • The 50-50 raffle was decided upon as a fund raiser in the last meeting. Committees were formed and the fund raiser is on target as planned.

  • Ideas were discussed as to how the money, raised by the 50-50 raffle, was to be utilized. It was proposed that refreshments should be offered to draw people to the meetings.

Club Funding:

  • Attempts were made to determine the amount of club funds. But the student association has not released the updated information as yet.

  • Concerns were also raised about the continued absence and lack of contribution of the club Treasurer. Due to other commitments, Ms. Fernandes may not be able to regularly attend meetings. It was proposed that another club member take up the post of the Treasurer.

  1. Meeting Minutes:

It was determined that the meeting minutes have not been sent to the CFB treasurer Mr. Ken Lawson, without which the club assets may be frozen. Secretary to act accordingly. It was also decided that the minutes must be approved by the members at every meeting and posted on the telecom website.

 

Telecom Buzz Report:

  • Niranjan Joshi, Editor of the Telecom Buzz, stepped down from the post due to personal commitments. Herbert Hernandez was elected the new Chief Editor by a unanimous vote.

Advisor’s Address: Dr. Kevin Lefebvre

  • Dr. Lefebvre spoke about the guest lecture to be co-sponsored by the Telecommunications Club. Joanne Bawa, a usability expert from UK will be giving a talk at SUNYIT on the 19th of April, 2005.

 

New Business:

  • Committee to be formed to examine the constitution to see if there were any eligibility requirements for being a member of the telecom club at SUNYIT. If not, some guidelines are to be formed as to who can become a member.

 

Committee Reports:

50-50 Raffle Committee:

  • Dates and Venues for the raffle stalls reserved.

  • Raffle tickets picked up from the Student Association Office

  • A sign up sheet was passed around for volunteers to sit at the venues.

Pre-Engineering Conference Committee:

  • Dr. Lefebvre will be assigning tasks to the committee members shortly

 

Open Forum:

  • Many ideas were thrown around for the promotion of the Telecom Club.

  • The club can work in conjunction with the gamers club at SUNYIT to connect with other schools. Aaron Kenney, who is a member of the gamers club, will speak to the club about this proposal.

  • Advertisements may be sent out to local companies for services by the Telecommunications Club. This can help promote the club as well as provide industry experience to the members. This will be taken up after the raffle fundraiser.
